Emerald Nuclear Wins $2.1M Norway Grant for Nuclear Ship Propulsion

Seattle startup Emerald Nuclear received a $2.1 million award from The Research Council of Norway to validate its high-temperature gas reactor tech with marine partners under Norway's Marine Nuclear Propulsion System Pilot project. The company, which has five employees and has not yet built a reactor, targets a first prototype and a 5 MW Gem Microreactor by 2030, with commercial deployment on a Norwegian offshore vessel in 2031.
