2This Week's Funding & Investment Trends

  1. 1

Money is concentrating in AI models and compute.

Value Add VC counts 61 US rounds totaling $10.4B for 10/9–10/16, with the top deals almost all in AI models, infrastructure and fintech: Ramp $1.85B, TypeSafe $870M, Modal $750M. a16z was the week's most visible lead, leading TypeSafe's Series A, while its speedrun program co-led Othello.

  2. 2

“AI agent + vertical workflow” seeds cluster at $4M–$8M, with YC-network investors on repeat.

Replicas $4M, Minicor $3.8M, Lightsprint $6.1M, Othello $8M; YC, Paul Graham, Pioneer Fund and Robinhood Ventures appear across multiple cap tables. The targets are practical grunt work: wiring up legacy systems, letting non-engineers change code, live in-call coaching.

  3. 3

AI video shifts from “generate one clip” to “agents producing continuously, maintained like code.”

Clueso raised $10M for enterprise video agents; Synthesia ($4B valuation in January) launched Syren for one-prompt finished videos; SF also hosted a dedicated “Video as Code” session this week on whether models should generate pixels directly or language models should write Remotion, Manim or Blender programs to render. Slightly earlier, Melius raised $25M (including a $20M Series A led by CRV) for AI ad images and video.

  4. 4

Books/publishing × AI keeps attracting bets (announced slightly earlier, 10/6–10/7).

Authors First raised a $10M+ seed to help authors adapt books into film and TV with AI and VFX tools while keeping creative control (Variety, 10/6; Very Frontier follow-up, 10/12). Czech startup Elredo Voice raised €1M+ to bring AI audiobook production to US publishers and already serves Wiley and HarperCollins. Signal: multi-format adaptation of books as IP (video, audio) is drawing capital.

  5. 5

Fintech's new story: managing money for AI agents.

Ramp's valuation rose from $44B to $60B in four months; selling points include corporate cards for AI agents, model routing and token-spend management. “AI spend / agent payments” is worth tracking as its own category.
